| Name: Dahlia Alyssum Parkinson (nee Yaxley) Year and House:Alumni (Class of 1977), Slytherin Affiliation:Death Eater Supporter (not a marked member) (April 20 - May 20) The Bull. Fixed, earth, yin - planetary ruler: Venus Keywords: "I HAVE" Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac and is associated with the neck and throat. Positive characteristics include stamina, patience, practicality, frugality, creativity, a love of beauty and nature, faithfulness, loyalty, determination, sensuality, and affection. Negative characteristics are stubbornness (there's a reason why stubborn people are called bullheaded), materialism, resistance to change, laziness, a terrible temper once aroused, prejudice, and sometimes an unimaginative nature. In this House, the traits associated with Taurus that will be most emphasized are materialism and loyalty. These Slytherins will be almost blindly loyal to their friends and allies, and they will value wealth and the trappings of wealth over more intangible assets. Determination will also be emphasized. All Slytherins are determined, but the stubborn Taurus Slytherin is unstoppable once they have their mind set on something. A large number of Slytheirns in this sign work for Gringotts after graduating from Hogwarts, for they are very good with money. Don’t Go by Looks Alone | On first impressions, Dahlia might not leave much. If she ever does, it depends upon the person she meets as to what that impression might be. She likes to think that she leaves an amazingly proper impression behind. She is proud of her serious and professional demeanor. She doesn’t talk unless expected to. When she does, her words are well measured and objective. She is quick to establish her place in social gatherings and does not like it when others step out of line or try to one-up her in front of established people. She admits that this makes her sound like a snob but she believes that the people who call her that just can’t handle and/or don’t understand her proper upbringing. The only people that matter anyway are the purebloods who grew up like her. | To her family and loved ones, she is very polite and shows her own brand of affection. She is quick to praise good work and quicker to point out mistakes. Since this is her closest circle, she believes that she is doing them a favor by helping them out before anything seriously wrong could happen. Dahlia enjoys doing housewifely-things. Since it’s been drilled into her psyche that she’s meant to be the perfect pureblood wife, she finds absolute satisfaction in running her household precisely, entertaining her husband with her singing or playing the flute, planning social events and shopping for knick-knacks to fill her house with. The only thing outside of her homemaker duties that she enjoys is running the nursery her aunt left her. She gets an unexplained joy in growing such beautiful and practical living things. Dahlia loves growing herbs and plants so much that she even has certain samples growing in her greenhouse and gardens in the back lawn. It goes without saying that Dahlia inherited the Gamps’ green thumb. This makes her favorite subject at Hogwarts to be Herbology. She did fairly well in Charms and Potions but she absolutely despised Transfigurations, Arithmancy and Care of Magical Creatures. She called those her “messy subjects.” Transfigurations and Arithmancy involved too many theories and thinking while Care of Magical Creatures was just disgusting. Dahlia also enjoys going on long scenic walks. She likes using the time to reflect on nature and how it permits certain living things to be more beautiful and elegant than others; thus putting them in a level above the common. Her favorite scenes are the peaceful coastal sunrises from her vacations in Rye and clear, sunny days in her gardens. Ironically enough, Dahlia is not too fond of floral perfumes. She likes to collect citrus-based perfumes instead. Build Me Up, Buttercup | Standing at an average height with a slightly angular/boyish build, Dahlia prides little of her outer appearance. This doesn’t mean that she’s low maintenance though. She’s a proper pureblood witch so she understands that she has an image to uphold. Dahlia just knows that, one day, her looks will give way; so she doesn’t try too hard. Still, she thinks she’s pretty enough. She likes the way her stick straight hair falls neatly in place, barely brushes against her pale cheeks and how it accentuates her hazel eyes. | Even as a child, Dahlia rarely ever smiled. In fact, her closest acquaintances would say that she only has two smiles: a small one, where her lips quirk up just a little, and her big one, where her cheeks would actually lift a little. Only her father and her husband have seen her actually smile from ear to ear. Her biggest physical flaw is her boyish figure. Dahlia hates looking at herself in the mirror at times and refuses to have robe fittings with anyone other than her family’s personal seamstress. Dahlia tries to wear fashionable clothes, often having pieces custom-made to flatter her body shape, but she finds herself much more comfortable in professional robes, blouses, blazers, skirts and business heels. When she attended Hogwarts, she wore her uniform (or at least part of her uniform) almost everyday. Narcissa picked on her incessantly for this and even more so on the occasions that Dahlia would wear something else, this time finding offense in the lack of color in her wardrobe. Dahlia doesn’t really have any favorite colors. She just tends to wear subdued colors more than bright, bold colors. She feels that there is no need to draw attention to her body’s lack of feminine definition. Besides, her dark clothes almost give her light skin a faint glow. Despite her complaints about her body, her build has actually served her well. Dahlia’s never caught anything more severe than the flu. She’s slightly [physically] stronger than most of the females in her family and she’s the first in her father’s side of the family not to need glasses at all. Preferred PB: Selma Blair A Look Into My Mirror | The only child of Adelmar Sophronius Yaxley and Eudora Oleander Gamp, Dahlia Alyssum Yaxley grew up in a very stringent home environment. The responsibilities to uphold the images of both pureblood families weighed heavily on her shoulders since she was the offspring of the eldest children of those families. As soon as she was able to walk, her mother scheduled her into various activities to mold her into the perfect pureblood witch. Eudora probably felt guilty about not being able to bear a son for her husband so she invested much of her time and her daughter’s training into grooming Dahlia to wed a suitable pureblood husband. Adelmar didn’t mind having a daughter but did not plan at all to pass on his business to Dahlia. Despite the by-the-book type upbringing, Dahlia respects and loves her parents and thinks of nothing but to obey and please them. Her parents, in return, dote on her and rarely refuse to get her anything she asks. | The Yaxleys and Gamps are just like any typical pureblood family so Dahlia has many cousins and distant relatives to surround herself with. Still, with her schedule and her serious demeanor, she rarely interacts with them at all. She prefers to take tea with her mother and her aunts, talking about the many Magical Plant Nurseries the Gamps own. She is very fond of her Aunt Reese, her mother’s eccentric younger sister, and often vacationed with her in the Gamps’ coastal home in Rye. Aunt Reese always had the quirkiest and most feminist things to say that would stir things up during family get-togethers. For Dahlia’s wedding, Aunt Reese gave her complete ownership of one of the nurseries just outside of London. When Dahlia is required to spend some time with people her age, she would stay by her distant cousin’s, Narcissa, side. Narcissa Black and Dahlia Yaxley could not be any more different from one another but Dahlia feels that they balance each other out. She secretly gets a kick out of comparing the two of them to a flower arrangement. She feels that the alyssum compliments the narcissus well, both flowers being dainty and elegant. Still, despite the narcissus being more beautiful than the alyssum, the dahlia’s bright petals are enough to hold its own against the narcissus. The Yaxleys appreciate the “friendship” the two girls hold and use the connection to mingle with the more prestigious Blacks and their acquaintances. Despite admitting that Narcissa is the closest person to her, outside her immediate family, Dahlia never really thought of her bond with Narcissa as a friendship. She just thought of it as “a comfortable partnership between two similarly raised pureblood women.” She believed that it was only logical that the two of them would pair up. Dahlia does not mind putting up with Narcissa’s whims for the most part. On the few times that she does, Dahlia just distracts herself with other things since she’s sure that Narcissa would be too wrapped up in her own little world to even notice her doing anything else. When she attended Hogwarts, Dahlia mainly stuck with the Slytherin crowd. She felt uncomfortable hanging around with the other houses and refused to risk tarnishing her family’s good name by unwittingly making friends with the wrong sort. Besides, most of her family’s friends had children in Slytherin and she appreciated the familiar comfort the house afforded her. Right after Hogwarts, Dahlia married Alfred Lynsey Parkinson. He’s 8 years her senior and is the youngest on St. Mungo’s Financial Board. His parents met her parents on a cruise in the Mediterranean just after Dahlia started Hogwarts. After much planning, the families determined to have their children meet and assess a potential union. Dahlia turned 16 when she first laid eyes on Alfred. She thought that he was an interesting man. He was erudite but had a crude sense of humor. He wasn’t all-too attractive but could charm any woman near him. He put on a smiling, non-political face to ease others but was fervent in his beliefs of pureblood dominance. Alfred was very interesting and that made her smile. Alfred was charmed by Dahlia’s own cultured upbringing and saw no problem in proposing to her. Dahlia could only describe her married life with him to be “normal pureblood perfection.” She plans her schedule around him and works to satisfy her husband’s needs. She is extremely proud of him and supports everything he does. She feels content in finally settling into the role she’s been brought up to fulfill. Dahlia hopes to get pregnant soon and give her husband an heir. My Garden Club | Alfred Lynsey Parkinson: Dahlia’s pillar and husband, Alfred is the center of her universe. She is delighted in marrying him and wishes to be the best wife to him. Lately though, she’s quite worried for him since he’s always out of the house. Gerald Hadrian Yaxley: Gerald is Dahlia’s favorite cousin. He’s the only one who doesn’t do anything annoying to her. Dahlia believes that he is a promising pureblood husband since he lives out all of his beliefs and upholds the family honor. She’s quite glad that he’s good friends with Alfred and is hanging around him more. Perhaps he could keep an eye on Alfred? |
Selma Blair is Selma Blair and I most certainly do not claim to own her.
